GroupNome is a musical utility application intended to connect up to eight different ios devices to a single metronome session. If you wish to properly utilize GroupNome, you will need to understand the three key states of a GroupNome session: Unconnected, Hosting, and Member.
When you are in the Unconnected State, GroupNome will function just like any other metronome. Set the tempo / time signature and then start the metronome to hear the click. You can then stop the metronome at any time and readjust these values. While in the Unconnected State, the actions you take on your device will not be transmitted to others, this will be true regardless of any previous connection state.
If you wish to connect to other devices one device is required to be in the Hosting State, this device can be referred to as the host of the GroupNome session. There is one host per GroupNome session, the host is the owner of the session. A device in the Hosting State is responsible for setting the metronome paramaters as well as starting and stopping the metronome for all connected members. While in the Hosting State, your device becomes discoverable to those devices looking to become a member in your session. As a host, you can accept up to 7 others to participate in your GroupNome session. Once the host terminates the session, all members are forced to the Unconnected State.
Up to seven members could connect to a host by joining the session forcing them to the Member State. As a member, your metronome parameters will mirror that of the host's and your metronome will start and stop at the command of the host. Host's must approve your entry to the session. Host's reserve the right to deny you access to the session which will leave you in the Unconnected State. As a member, you can leave a session at any time which will bring you to the Unconnected State. The host reserves the right to terminate the session at any time forcing all members to the Unconnected State.
GroupNome is very easy to operate if you know what Connection State is appropriate for you. If you do not wish to be connected to other devices you must enter the Unconnected State. If you wish to be the sole controller of up to seven other devices you must enter the Hosting State. If you wish to mirror another individuals metronome you must enter the Member State connecting to the appropriate host. We hope that you can find much use out of GroupNome and encourage you to reach out to support@groupnome.app with any and all feedback.

FAQ

Can I use bluetooth headphones with GroupNome?

We can not guarentee success with all types of bluetooth headphones on the market. Bluetooth introduces a time delay. GroupNome is a time critical application. We have attempted to roughly compensate for this delay but can not make any garentees.

How do I get the best results while using group nome?

GroupNome will work best when all parties are using either the built in speaker or wired headphones. If this is not possible, we recomend everyone in a session use the same sound medium. If you are all on bluetooth headphones you can expect better results then if you were to mix a combination of wired and bluetooth headphones in a single session.

I can not discover other devices

Please ensure that both your wifi and bluetooth are on in order to properly utilize its connection functionality. The app will decide which communication medium is best.

Why do i have no control over my meternome?

When you join a session, you have no control over the meternome. Only the host can control the settings of the meternome. Your app effectivly becomes a clone of the host app keeping you both in sync.

Why can't I Change The Tempo Or time signature

Once the meternome has started playing, you lose the ability to change its setting until you stop. This is due to the delay introduced by wireless communication. When you are a host of a sesssion, those that have joined your session will not be able to recive your messages in time to keep your meternome sessions in sync. This issue will be tackled in a later release of GroupNome.
